Danny J. Benefit Ride

June 28th & 29th , 2008

Soaring Edge Motocross

Greenwood, Nebraska

A quiet, unassuming man, Danny Janulewicz just wants a little more for his kid. What father doesn’t? Danny’s son, Nick, is an up and coming 65cc motocross racer from Omaha. While there’s no arguing Danny is a big Brian Deegan fan, it’s even more obvious who Nick’s favorite rider is: 2004 and 2008 AMA/FIM Supercross Champion Chad Reed. Taking the next step in this highly competitive sport is tough and expensive. Danny and Nick were preparing to start racing at the Regional and National level this year.

Recently a fire destroyed the Janulewicz home and just about everything inside. One 65cc bike was recovered, but that was about it. All of Nick’s gear and spare parts suffered either fire, smoke, or water damage.

After visiting the home myself, the uncertainty in Jerry Janulewicz’s eyes told me I had to do something. The family patriarch (Danny’s father), Jerry helped me out at races while in attendance to support his son. Retired from AT&T and enjoying the role of doting grandfather, Jerry was properly insured so the financial side of things was covered. But who could prepare for the emotional part of that equation?

That’s where we as motocrossers and motorcycle enthusiasts come in.

The Danny J. Benefit Ride, is June 28-29, 2008. The event will be held in conjunction with a Saturday night race at Soaring Edge Motocross Park, sponsored by www.theoilmart.com and Amsoil.During intermission on Saturday night, an auction will be held to raise money for the family of Danny Janulewicz, whose home was lost to fire recently. Items up for auction include a Chad Reed jersey, Jeremy McGrath jersey, Doug Henry 1993 #1 jersey (signed), Brian Deegan X-games T-shirt (signed) and other giveaways provided by local sponsors.

On Sunday, all proceeds from practice fees will be donated by the track to the family. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided free of charge, courtesy of www.theoilmart.com and Storm Lake Honda. Red Bull will be in attendance to help support the cause.
The Oil Mart-sponsored riders Ricky Draper and Travis Hodges have both committed to race the Saturday night event. Don’t miss this chance to see a great shoot out and help a fellow motocrosser at the same time.
